Opti-FiSM WirelessOpti-FiSM is a new airport wireless service that offers the dual capability of broadband Internet access for the public and a secure local private wireless network to assist airport and tenant operations. Previously, airports could not provide public wireless access without giving up some control of the airport airwaves. Opti-Fi now allows airports to accommodate any number of outside Internet providers while retaining airwave control. Opti-Fi is the only wireless LAN system specifically designed for airports, and offers a network-quality service to the airport and its tenants. The service was developed by Opti-Fi Networks, Ltd., an affiliate of ARINC Incorporated. Features Opti-Fi is a fully managed, host-neutral service that helps airports generate the revenue of public "Wi-Fi" or 802.11 services to passengers with broadband Internet access and roaming capability for their portable devices and computers. Opti-Fi also enhances airport operations like check-in, baggage handling, and boarding gates, as well as airport services such as retail vendors and parking. Its unique design gives bandwidth to those applications that need it, allowing the network to be better utilized. The network can also carry management and back-office applications for the airport. |
