ARINC Business Radio Service (ABRS)

The ARINC Business Radio Service (ABRS) is a conventional ground radio system that enables communications between personnel working in the airport terminal and ramp areas. Flight service and ground support staff across the country are using our 450 MHz conventional (non-trunked) radio system consisting of hand-held and vehicular radios operating in a simplex or half-duplex (repeater) communications mode:

Airport worker using handheld radio Basic radio-to-radio mode (simplex)—This basic service operates on one frequency, making it the perfect choice for calls between single users. This low-cost implementation does not require any infrastructure other than handie-talkies, vehicular units, base station(s), or any combination thereof. Radio-to-radio systems can also be programmed to handle multiple frequencies.

Radio-to-radio mode with repeater—This system consists of the basic configuration described above, with the addition of a repeater. A repeater is a radio relay transceiver that extends the transmission of a radio beyond its normal range. This type of system operates in half-duplex mode, where the repeater receives on one frequency and transmits on another.

ARINC offers a couple of options to meet your operational requirements. The single-user repeater is best suited to user groups that require exclusive access to the entire radio system. The community repeater allows multiple groups to share the same frequency.

Whether you are an airline, ground support organization, or fixed base operator, the ARINC Business Radio Service is the perfect solution when reliable, inexpensive radio communications are required.

ARINC has satisfied Business Radio Service airport customers across the country:

Calls between single users are easy to initiate
Repeater configuration expands the coverage area to the entire airport and beyond, while greatly increasing the number of radios the system can support

Did You Know

The community repeater is the perfect solution for user groups that are willing to share the radio system with other user groups. This is accomplished by installing frequency tone codes in the repeaters, and programming the groups’ radios with different tone codes. This implementation also prevents one group or organization from listening to another group's conversation.
