Maintenance Training Devices

It is challenging to cost-effectively and safely train aircraft maintenance personnel without having to use the actual aircraft.

Maintenance Training ImageToday, taking commercial or military aircraft out of service to train maintenance personnel should be a last-resort option. ARINC can design, develop, and manufacture a cost-effective, modern maintenance training device (MTD) that lets you use your aircraft for their intended purposes—not as a maintenance trainer.

Not too long ago, maintenance trainers used to be little better than bench mockups—full Journeyman certifications had to be done using the actual aircraft. Today, ARINC can build highly realistic trainers that look and feel very much like the aircraft, enabling technicians to become fully certified without their having to even touch the actual aircraft.

As a total aircraft MTD systems integrator, we can design, develop, and fabricate a new device and perform modifications, upgrades, and maintenance overhauls on existing devices of all types.

ARINC has years of experience maintaining, upgrading, and modifying everything from aircraft cargo doors and ramps to sophisticated communications, navigation, and flight-control systems. When preparing a proposal for a new MTD, we use this experience to develop system-level specifications, functional-requirements specifications, cost-benefit and technical trade-off analyses, and a life-cycle cost analysis—everything you need to make an informed decision.

Our maintenance training device offering also includes provision of on-site engineers who minimize device downtime, perform electrical and system function testing, conduct EMC/EMI testing, carry fully shadowed toolkits, and are FAA- and FCC-certified technicians.

Did You Know

The U.S. Air Force has retained ARINC to upgrade its existing C-5 maintenance training devices (MTDs) as part of its program to modernize its fleet of C-5 aircraft. The goal: Enable all C-5 maintenance training to be conducted off-aircraft. ARINC will design, manufacture, deliver, install, and field-test one new device, and upgrade two existing C-5 MTDs that incorporate new avionics.
