Flight Training Devices

In order for simulated flight training to be truly effective, the cockpit experience must be entirely realistic. Many pilots feel they are merely playing a game if they use a keyboard at all during simulated flight, even if they do have a yoke and rudder pedals.

With ARINC's Flight Training Devices (FTDs), this issue simply does not come up. All simulator controls and their configuration are identical to those in the real aircraft, allowing trainees to fully immerse themselves in the environment. The large-format visual system provides excellent transition cues and minimum controllable airspeed training. The extreme realism of ARINC's FTDs results in faster, more effective training.

By using a realistic FTD, pilots don't need to spend as much training time in the actual aircraft. Pilots can learn, understand, and practice concepts of maneuvering, navigation, and procedures—even cockpit resource management—in the FTD under all kinds of external conditions, using either visual or instrument flight rules.

ARINC also has PC-based FTDs, which are suprisingly affordable. And, pilot trainees can finally practice their flying and procedural skills until they are perfected in the simulated environment. The incremental time then spent in a real aircraft is used to further hone their skills, saving substantially on flight costs.

ARINC designs and builds flight training devices for commercial, general, and military aircraft, including airplanes and helicopters. And our flight training devices are FAA-certified.

Did You Know

ARINC's FTDs simulate virtually all VFR and IFR weather conditions including rain, wind, and cloud types that change with altitude and time. What's more, the airport and terrain database is worldwide, so you can broaden your experience. You can save selected scenarios for use during later flight training. And FTD reliability and maintainability are better than 98%—unsurpassed in the industry.
