Intrusion Detection System

Ensuring that no unauthorized person gains entry to a secure facility or sensitive area—whether at an airport, nuclear plant, industrial plant, government mission-critical facility, or commercial building—is a top priority for security managers. With ARINC's Intrusion Detection System (IDS)—fully integrated with ARINC's Advanced Information Management (AIM®) system—security forces can monitor the exterior and interior of your facility and secure areas, monitor sensitive equipment within these areas, and detect the entry, forced or otherwise, of unauthorized personnel.

IDS makes use of sophisticated intrusion sensors (including microwave and e-field technology) and door sensors (including balanced magnetic switches) to detect unauthorized entry. The system also features duress-condition silent alarms and equipment tamper and fault monitors. Selected CCTV cameras are assigned to specific alarm zones, allowing instant visual assessment of an alarm condition.

The IDS data-acquisition and control software continually monitors perimeter detection instrumentation and notifies console operators if any unauthorized change of system state occurs, both by sounding an audible console alarm and by prominently displaying the possible intrusion incident on the screen, in tabular and graphic format. The system also monitors and reports unauthorized entry into designated protected areas (e.g., through cycling of the door's magnetic switch). Notification is by audible alarm and screen indication. Geographic partitioning of all alarms enables selected consoles to receive specific alarms configured for that station. Additional system configuration panels permit easy administrator management and setup.

The IDS/AIM communications backbone utilizes the TCP/IP protocol and commercial off-the-shelf hardware components. This infrastructure delivers high-speed alarm notification for all alarm zones, as demanded in sensitive, mission-critical applications. For assured reliability, the backbone is redundant for all host servers, workstations, and communication multiplexer connections.

Did You Know

In the event of a personnel duress situation, the console operator under duress can immediately alert other console operators by depressing a concealed switch or by performing a special keyboard sequence. All other consoles display the situation and sound audible alarms. However, the situational display and normal audible annunciation at the console under duress is suppressed. In addition, certain other critical functions at the initiating console are automatically disabled.
