Electromagnetic Modeling and Simulation

Companies needing antenna or communications systems help are dealing with a host of concerns, including the structure of their platform and its effects on antenna radiation patterns and radio frequency (RF) propagation. These companies want cost-effective, timely, expert support and ARINC addresses these requirements by developing electromagnetic, virtual reality models and simulations, allowing us to literally see potential problems and quickly develop effective solutions.

Using our proven, accurate, three-dimensional graphics programs, we create real-world visualizations of system RF performance and associated electromagnetic phenomena. We then use these visualizations to evaluate communications subsystems, stand-alone antennas, and even complete platforms—such as winged aircraft, helicopters, ships, and ground vehicles.

These electromagnetic modeling and simulation techniques graphically depict antenna radiation patterns, surface current distributions, and system performance. Solutions become evident, even to non-technical decision makers. To demonstrate the accuracy of our methodology, we build and test prototype antennas, then compare results with systems installed on actual platforms.

ARINC can use these techniques to design new antennas, determine the optimum antenna location, or uncover why an existing antenna's location isn't appropriate. This test actually tracks the antenna's radiation performance when it is installed on its platform, not just how the antenna will behave in an isolated test chamber. In addition, this analysis accounts for the effects of a platform's structure on the antenna performance, presenting a real-world model of the antenna's behavior. We model and evaluate the antenna's radiation patterns and performance, electromagnetic interference susceptibility and effects, and other parameters.

Because ARINC's techniques eliminate the trial-and-error approach of prototyping and testing, they significantly reduce the time, effort, and risk needed to generate a workable solution. We can design a brand-new system or fix/upgrade your existing system, within a few months—even weeks.
