FiberNetToday, high-quality, high-speed communications are essential for the proper functioning of enterprises, government agencies, and other entities that have geographically dispersed facilities. ARINC can connect these locations with FiberNet—a broadband, fiber-optic-based WAN that uses asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) to effectively handle a wide range of multimedia content.
The system supports both JPEG and MPEG-2 broadcast-quality video for use in video teleconferencing, distance learning, and telejustice applications. Bandwidth is automatically shared among multiple applications on a dynamic basis, as opposed to traditional systems that prededicate application bandwidth and waste capacity. Maximum FiberNet transmission rates are:
Since 1999, Montgomery County, Maryland, has used FiberNet to deliver broadband data, telephone, Internet, video, and other services to many of its facilities, including police and fire stations, district courts, government offices, public schools, community colleges, libraries, and county departments. FiberNet is also a key element in the County’s public safety initiative, carrying 800-MHz voice and data signals from its public safety communication system, emergency communications center, and mobile data network. Montgomery County owns and operates FiberNet’s 300 miles of fiber and all backbone hubs, routers, and switches, enabling them to lower their overall costs compared with leasing alternatives. |
