Centralized Automatic Dependent Surveillance (CADS)Air traffic service providers and airline operations centers that provide automatic dependent surveillance (ADS) position reports and weather information generated by FANS-1/A-equipped aircraft need a way to implement their service without requiring the installation of costly communications, navigation, surveillance/air traffic management (CNS/ATM) workstations or the implementation of new procedures. With ARINC's Centralized Automatic Dependent Surveillance (CADS) service, these users can achieve this goal. CADS allows FANS-equipped aircraft to send reports to any air traffic service provider or airline operations center and can display the information on their existing equipment, eliminating the need for new investments or processes. This is accomplished by having the CADS server translate the received information into a standard character-based format, then sending the report to the area control center or meteorological authority via the Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunications Network. Report copies can also be forwarded to airline host computers using AviNet®, ARINC's data network service. CADS can also receive, translate, and forward any ADS-generated emergency messages. In addition, ADS information received and processed by participating service providers can be received by the ARINC CADS server and distributed to non-participating service providers and airline operation centers. CADS offers two basic options:
