ARINC Delivers Circuit Breaker Kits for Air Force
KC-135 Upgrade
November 10, 2009
Annapolis, Maryland—ARINC Engineering Services, LLC today announced it has begun delivery of 44 Circuit Breaker Replacement Kits ordered earlier this year by the U.S. Air Force as part of an upgrade to its KC-135 tanker aircraft.
ARINC designed and is now manufacturing the kits at its Fabrication and Production facility located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The first four kits were delivered to nearby Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City on October 23.
The kits are part of an ongoing GATM (Global Air Transportation Management) Block 40 upgrade to the venerable aircraft fleet. The Block 40 upgrade will allow KC-135 aircraft to comply with CNS/ATM requirements for unrestricted access to civil airspace.
Each installation kit includes 574 circuit breakers, 12 fiberglass panels, wire harnesses, and other required parts. ARINC won the Circuit Breaker contract earlier this year in a competitive procurement.
“ARINC was the Air Force’s logical choice to perform this work,” stated Jeffery Willis, Director, Defense Programs Oklahoma City. “We have proven our capabilities since 1999 by building more than 400 KC-135 Transformer Rectifier kits and supporting other fleet upgrade work at Tinker.”
The Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker was the first jet powered aerial refueling tanker of the U.S. Air Force, and about 500 planes are currently in the fleet. Many of these airframes have been in service since the 1960s.
The ARINC AIM Defense Programs Department maintains operations in both Oklahoma City and Warner Robins, GA, to serve regional and platform-specific customers. The Department has a cadre of program managers, project controllers, and financial analysts capable of closely managing Defense-related programs within cost and schedule constraints.
