ARINC Shows New vMUSE EnterpriseTM at ACI-NA: Common-Use Check-In without the Server
October 13, 2009
Annapolis, Maryland—ARINC Incorporated this week introduced a breakthrough in airport check-in systems that significantly reduces the cost of common-use passenger processing for today’s airports.
The new system, vMUSE EnterpriseTM, employs “thin client” design and virtual server technology to lower both the capital equipment and operational costs of common use. ARINC is demonstrating the new system this week at Booth 701 of the Airports Council International-North America 2009 exposition in Austin, Texas.
Unlike traditional common-use systems, ARINC’s vMUSE Enterprise requires no costly computer servers or core room at the airport. All passenger data processing and airline connectivity is handled over a single high-speed network connection to a “virtual server,” located in ARINC’s global processing center.
“We have taken remote-server technology to the next level with vMUSE Enterprise,” states Mike Picco, ARINC Vice President, Airport Systems Division. “By coupling virtual-server design with thin client hardware, we have significantly reduced the market entry point for a full-capability common-use system. The up-front costs for equipment and installation, as well as ongoing costs of operation and maintenance are all reduced.”
Because minimal processing is performed on site, ARINC vMUSE Enterprise can be installed on desktop workstations, laptop computers, or thin-client terminal hardware. The reduced on-site processing speeds passenger handling and minimizes system setup requirements. The vMUSE Enterprise system delivers common-use capabilities similar to full-size, server-based terminal installations or CUTE systems. It is highly cost-effective whether installed in the airport lobby or at off-airport locations.
ARINC vMUSE Enterprise can be deployed in minutes wherever an Internet connection is available, making it ideal for mid-city ticket offices, cruise lines, parking terminals, rental car facilities, transit stations and convention centers, and for seasonal and overflow use by airports.
At ACI-NA Booth 701, ARINC is also showcasing its new Internet-enabled microFIDSTM system, AirVUETM display system, and ARINC SelfServTM kiosk technology. A live check-in service will be available to ACI attendees at the booth.
As with all airport check-ins, operators of vMUSE Enterprise in the United States must obtain security training and certification from the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
