ARINC Awarded Contract to Support Human Space Flight Activity at STRATCOM

September 28, 2009

Annapolis, Maryland—ARINC Engineering Services, LLC today announced it has been awarded an Advisory and Assistance Services (A&AS) contract to support the Human Space Flight activities of USSTRATCOM located at Offutt AFB, Nebraska.

The contract carries a 1-year base period and three one-year options, covering a time period between the end of NASA’s Space Shuttle Program in FY 2010 and the start of manned missions in the Constellation Program, NASA’s follow-on, in FY 2014.

NASA is already studying contingency options for the rescue of Constellation astronauts and the recovery of Constellation space vehicles. The USSTRATCOM Human Space Flight Support Office (HSFS) has the responsibility for contingency planning.

“ARINC Engineering Services is delighted to win this important work supporting the nation’s next great venture in space exploration,” stated Christopher ‘Jake’ Warner, Senior Director, Space & Strategic Operations, ARINC Engineering Services. “This award confirms and strengthens our company’s deep experience in space-related work at USSTRATCOM including support for the Cyberspace, SATCOM Planning, and GPS programs.”

The HSFS Office at USSTRATCOM develops contingency plans for astronaut rescue and recovery in nominal or emergency landings, for landing site support, airlift/sealift, medical, and other types of contingency activity. To achieve this, HSFS coordinates closely with the Department of Defense and the U.S. Coast Guard, to enable NASA to meet its Constellation program objectives with respect to DOD responsibilities and contingency deployment of assets around the world in every Area of Responsibility.

ARINC’s scope of work under the contract will include: linking current contingency plans with other plans and processes in the development of the Human Space Flight Support Operations Plan; development, support, and analysis of HSFS Operations policy alternatives; assistance with review of military plans and recommendations for improvement and synchronization; and working with other agencies and stakeholders to integrate inputs and help integrate planning efforts.
