ARINC Committed to Establish Its Presence in India
Recently Awarded IT Projects at Indira Gandhi International Airport Will Provide Future Growth Opportunities
June 11, 2009
New Delhi, India—The Asia Pacific Division of ARINC Incorporated, a world leader in transportation and systems engineering, today said that it is committed to establish its presence in India with the winning of key airport projects at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in New Delhi.
ARINC last month completed the installation of advanced passenger and baggage technologies at the new Terminal 1D at IGIA. This week the company announced it has also won the passenger IT project at IGIA Terminal 3 (T3), planned as one of the world’s largest airport terminals. T3 is poised to serve the huge number of travellers that will visit New Delhi for the highly anticipated 2010 Commonwealth Games.
The passenger systems at Terminal 1D represent ARINC’s first airport technology contract in India. The large-scale project includes more than 100 vMUSETM common-use workstations, 9 common-use self-service (CUSS) kiosks, and ARINC’s BagLinkTM baggage messaging and reconciliation systems. The Terminal serves seven carriers and is developed by DIAL, Delhi International Airport (P) Limited, a consortium led by GMR Group.
“With our new and efficient passenger handling technologies at Terminal 1D, domestic departure capacity at IGIA can be raised to 10 million passengers a year,” stated Randy Pizzi, Vice President and Managing Director of ARINC’s Asia Pacific Division. “The ultimate role of technology should be to provide passengers with a smooth and comfortable travel experience, and we are very excited to be working with DIAL to realize their vision. ARINC is committed to supporting DIAL and IGIA, along with future customers in India.”
In the current project for Terminal 3, ARINC will be deploying over 500 vMUSE common-use workstations, as well as the VeriPax Passenger Reconciliation System (PRS), Local Departure Control System (L-DCS) and Baggage Management Systems.
Mr. Pizzi said, “We are very pleased to be awarded the project for Terminal 3, one of the world’s largest airport terminals. These projects demonstrate our capability to leverage on our global airport expertise for India, and we hope to offer our products and services to other airports in India to support the robust industry growth here.”
ARINC is currently establishing fully staffed offices in New Delhi and Mumbai to enhance service to customers and support business growth in India.
ARINC’s other activities in India include the establishment and expansion of its GLOBALinkSM data link infrastructure, providing network services to the airlines and working to implement its Electronic Borders solution in the subcontinent.
Mr. Pizzi said ARINC is committed to make a presence in India, and very excited with the opportunities here. “We want to establish our presence in India, and we want to demonstrate visibly that we are committed to India, which is a very strategic market for ARINC’s expansion plans into Asia Pacific,” he added.
Delhi International Airport (P) Limited (DIAL) is a consortium led by GMR Group and comprised of Airports Authority of India, Fraport AG, Eraman Malaysia and India Development Fund. DIAL has been given the mandate to operate, maintain, develop, design, construct, finance, upgrade and modernize IGI Airport until 2036. Plans include a new integrated passenger terminal complex to handle 37 million passengers per annum by 31st March 2010, before the Commonwealth Games scheduled in Delhi.
