New ARINC VeriPaxTM Passenger Reconciliation System Enhances Airport Security—Changi as Launch CustomerMarch 3, 2009
“The security processes at most airports are currently manual,” said Randy Pizzi, Vice President and Managing Director of ARINC’s Asia Pacific Division. “With VeriPax automated screening, airport security can authenticate passenger boarding passes in just seconds by validating their status against the airline system. VeriPax can also perform other types of identity checks in real time.” The VeriPax application enhances manual screening of passengers for access to a terminal’s airside areas. It can detect and highlight duplicate boarding passes, and can be customized to perform other checks, such as validating passenger names against a "watchlist" database or checking passenger itineraries against valid flight schedules for the day. Airlines can also customize the checks required to suit their business needs. ARINC’s VeriPax technology is designed with standard off-the-shelf components, providing a flexible and expandable solution for the simplest types of checks. It can also be integrated with local and external data sources, including biometric security applications, to deliver more robust screening and verification. The VeriPax system supports the industry’s transition to 2D bar-coded and plain paper boarding passes, in line with IATA’s Simplifying the Business initiative. A customized version of VeriPax is currently being developed at Singapore’s Changi Airport to facilitate self check-in passengers and to enhance the security infrastructure.
