ARINC DirectSM Adds Flight Plan Uplink Service For Iberia Flight Plan Customers
October 20, 2008
Annapolis, Maryland—ARINC DirectSM today announced it has started providing uplinking of flight plans for its communications customers who use the Iberia Airlines flight planning engine.
The uplink system was developed in close cooperation with Iberia, whose legacy flight planning engine serves both commercial and business aviation in Europe. When a flight plan is filed, Iberia transmits it electronically to ARINC Direct, where it is stored for delivery over data link to the cockpit on demand.
“Iberia’s flight planning service is widely used by our customers in Spain,” stated James Hardie, ARINC’s EMEA Business Manager, Datalink Services. “Now, Iberia users can have the benefits of electronic uplinking through ARINC Direct, without any need to change their flight planning provider. This gives operators one more good reason to come to ARINC Direct for our comprehensive communications services.”
ARINC Direct introduced its communications portfolio to business aviation in Europe during 2006, and today the company serves more than 2000 aircraft worldwide. While ARINC Direct offers its own web-based integrated flight planning system, it has always recognized the need for flight plan uplink capability for customers of other major flight planning services in North America and Europe, including Jeppesen, Universal, and BaseOps. The provision of this uplink service allows customers to choose their flight plan service provider separately from their communications services provider, in order to take full advantage of their aircraft’s capabilities.
ARINC Incorporated, a portfolio company of The Carlyle Group, provides communications, engineering and integration solutions for commercial, defense and government customers worldwide. Headquartered in Annapolis, Maryland with regional headquarters in London and Singapore, ARINC is ISO 9001certified.
