ARINC GLOBALinkSM Engineering Group Achieves CMMI Level 3 Recertification
June 12, 2008
Annapolis, Maryland—The ARINC engineering team responsible for developing and maintaining a large part of the world’s airline air to ground communications has renewed its Software Engineering Institute Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) certification.
ARINC’s GLOBALinkSM Engineering group was recertified by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) for its CMMI Level 3 rating. The Level 3 rating is a clear indication of a high level of process maturity achieved at the world’s leading provider of air/ground communications. The GLOBALink group first attained Level 3 for product and service processes in 2005. The CMMI Level 3 recertification follows an in-depth assessment of the GLOBALink framework for process integration and improvement conducted by Process Transition International. GLOBALink Engineering is the first ARINC unit to be certified to Level 3.
“This achievement demonstrates ARINC’s ongoing commitment to provide our airline and civil aviation customers throughout the world the highest quality products and services,” said Scott Malone, ARINC’s Director of GLOBALink Engineering. “We are very proud of this engineering team.”
ARINC’s GLOBALink Engineering team provides ongoing development and sustaining engineering for the company’s worldwide ACARS® data link network, and Aeronautical Telecommunications Network (ATN) communications used by Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSP) for air traffic services.
These systems provide critical safety-of-flight data link communications for more than 10,000 aircraft operating around the world, and carry 35 million airline operational control and air traffic services messages every month.
“ARINC’s continued engineering performance at this prestigious rating reinforces our position as the world leader in data link service for the aeronautical industry,” said Ron Hawkins, ARINC Vice President, Commercial Aviation Solutions. “We are extremely proud of the GLOBALink engineering team and their commitment to customer service and continuous process improvement.”
CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) is used for the best practices of product and service development in both the commercial and defense industries. CMMI assessments follow guidelines of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) of Carnegie Mellon University.
