St. John's International Airport Installs New CUSS Kiosks; ARINC SelfServTM Technology Now Available Coast-to-Coast

April 2, 2008

Annapolis, Maryland—ARINC Incorporated today announced it has completed an innovative installation of common-use (CUSS) check-in kiosks for airline passengers at St. John’s International Airport, Newfoundland.

Ten ARINC SelfServTM kiosks will be shared initially by Air Canada, Continental, and WestJet Airlines.

The installation marks the twelfth successive deployment of ARINC’s common-use kiosk technology at a Canadian airport in the last five years. ARINC SelfServ systems now serve passengers coast to coast in Canada from Newfoundland to British Columbia.

ARINC has been lowering the cost of common-use systems with innovative technology to make CUSS kiosks more affordable for mid-size airports. For St. John’s International, ARINC installed a “remote hosted” system, reducing the IT infrastructure required on site to lower the airport’s capital and maintenance costs. Off-site data processing for the St. John’s system is provided by high-speed processors located at Montréal-Trudeau International Airport, about 2,500 miles away.

“We knew common-use kiosks had to be part of our future because they make better use of floor space and help with traffic flow,” stated Frank Wyse, Director of Information and Communications Technology, St. John’s International Airport Authority. Our passengers were also asking for this service. As a result, the kiosks have been well received and utilized by the traveling public. A noticeable improvement has already been made in reducing the lineups at check-in. ARINC’s 'remote hosted' solution helped us migrate to CUSS faster, without waiting for a larger volume of passengers to justify the investment. We have been very pleased with the results, and we look forward to additional airlines joining our common-use system over time.”

“This cost-effective kiosk installation for St. John’s International Airport dramatically illustrates how ARINC common-use systems can benefit mid-size and smaller airports,” stated Mike Picco, ARINC Vice President, Airport Systems. “St. John’s becomes our twelfth kiosk customer in Canada, and ARINC can proudly say its technology now serves travelers completely across the country.”

St. John’s International Airport Authority is Canada’s tenth busiest airport, serving approximately 1.25 million passengers each year.  Six scheduled airlines and three charter carriers operate from St. John’s, serving 17 destinations in Canada, the Caribbean, and the United States.  St. John’s International Airport Authority is a private, not-for-profit organization with a mandate to provide travelers with a world-class airport experience and provide the region with innovative airport services.  Over the next five years the Airport Authority plans to invest $55 million in its capital improvement program.  For more information, visit the website at www.stjohnsairport.com.
