ARINC Hosts Second Annual Seminar for Advanced Electromagnetic Antenna Design

June 21, 2007

Seminar attendeesAnnapolis, Maryland—For a second year, ARINC Incorporated has hosted its advanced seminar for studies in the field of electromagnetic antenna design. The seminar features four days of discussions led by antenna experts Dr. Gary A. Thiele and Dr. Warren Stutzman, authors of the industry reference work, Antenna Theory and Design.

The 2007 ARINC seminar attracted engineers and experts from around the world to broaden their knowledge of antenna theory and design. The participants this year represented private industry as well as state and federal agencies including the Coast Guard, FBI, and others from as far away as Poland, India, and England.

All types of electromagnetic communications and radar systems can be affected by environmental factors such as buildings, terrain irregularities, or simple weather conditions. The quality and reliability of these systems can be greatly enhanced by the improved performance, achieved through proper antenna selection and design.

ARINC uses electromagnetic modeling and simulation techniques to design and build new antennas and to mitigate ongoing communications problems. Radio frequency (RF) systems that can be enhanced by such analysis include virtually all daily communications—from walkie talkies and space communications to microwave relays and cell phones.

For decades, ARINC has been a leading provider of antenna expertise, from building prototype and production antennas to calculating and analyzing antenna/system performance and RF coverage models for both civilian and military systems.

Stutzman, Thiele, and BascianoARINC seminar moderator, Nick Basciano, Senior Director of Advanced Applications, stated, “Doctors Thiele and Stutzman are two of the world’s leading experts in the delivery of antennae modeling and theory. We are indeed grateful they are willing to share their time and knowledge in this second ARINC seminar, which we’re sure will be appreciated by this year’s attendees.”

Dr. Warren L. Stutzman is a professor at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and received his BSEE and AB (Mathematics) degrees from the University of Illinois, and MS and Ph.D. degrees from Ohio State University. He is the author of several books including Polarization in Electromagnetic Systems and Antenna Theory and Design: Second Edition, and he has published many papers and technical reports. Dr. Stutzman served as the 1992 President of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society and is a Fellow of the IEEE.

Gary A. Thiele received his Ph.D. from the Ohio State University in 1968 and served on its faculty through 1980. Professor Thiele has contributed to two books, authored numerous technical reports and journal papers, and presented papers at electromagnetic technical symposia in the United States and abroad. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and was the 1982 President of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society. From 1989 to 1993, Dr. Thiele served on the Army Science Board.

ARINC Incorporated is the world leader in transportation communications and systems engineering. The company develops and operates communications and information processing systems and provides systems engineering and integration solutions to five key industries: airports, aviation, defense, government, and surface transportation.
