Ten Caribbean Countries Adopt ARINC Network for Law EnforcementMay 3, 2007Annapolis, MarylandAfter a successful six-week assignment helping ten Caribbean nations maintain security for the 2007 Cricket World Cup, a “temporary” data network provided by ARINC Incorporated has earned a full-time job in law enforcement. The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) nations hosting this year’s Cup have decided to make the secure ARINC data network a permanent part of their law enforcement toolkit. ARINC’s network was credited with helping officials identify and turn away more than 1500 “undesirable persons” headed for Cup events held on nine island nations and in Guyana. As part of the CARICOM Advance Passenger Information System (APIS), the ARINC network was deployed in March and April to handle visa and identification requirements for the arrival for some 50,000 international cricket fans. “We could not have handled the international traffic of the Cricket World Cup without ARINC’s network and their active support,” said Cdr. Louis Baptiste, Operations Manager of CARICOM’s Joint Regional Communications Centre (JRCC) of CARICOM IMPACS. “We are now looking forward to the benefits of having a permanent APIS network as a flexible law enforcement tool linking all ten of our countries.” Designed to handle identification and visa requirements for 800 airline flights per day, the ARINC network was subsequently enhanced to handle cruise ship passenger visa information as well. It currently serves three cruise lines operating 20 ships visiting dozens of CARICOM ports, with 1,000 to 5,000 passengers per ship. “By applying our AviNet eXchangeSM technology we were able to create a solution to benefit both the cruise lines and CARICOM,” said Ruth Hough, Vice President, ARINC Network Solutions. “With AviNet eXchange the cruise lines can continue to use their existing technology standards to forward APIS data, and the CARICOM authorities can receive that data in a different format that supports their own requirements.” ARINC’s AviNet eXchangeSM messaging service allows users to take full advantage of modern, efficient Web Services and XML-based applications, with the added benefit of high reliability and security for mission-critical, sensitive, and safety-of-life data. The ICC Cricket World Cup takes place every four years, and 2007 marked the first time the games were played in ten sovereign host countries. These included Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago.
