ARINC Wins Second Major CUSS Installation at Japan’s Narita Airport Terminal 1

April 18, 2007

Singapore—For the second time in a year, ARINC Incorporated has captured a significant contract to install common-use self-service (CUSS) kiosks for international passengers at Japan’s Narita International Airport, Terminal 1. ARINC will install its enhanced SelfServ™ CUSS kiosk technology, featuring Java™ functionality.

Under the contract, awarded by airlines of the Narita Terminal 1 North CLUB, ARINC will install 126 CUSS kiosks in Terminal 1 North Wing. The project closely matches the 126 CUSS kiosks ARINC is currently installing for airlines at Terminal 1 South Wing, under a separate contract. The two projects are the largest single deployments of CUSS kiosks ever commissioned in the Asia Pacific region.

“Our member airlines require a CUSS solution that is flexible to meet all their different system performance requirements, yet remains open and scalable to accommodate future technology and new applications,” stated Tony Mulholland, Chairman of the Narita Terminal 1 North CLUB. “After a thorough evaluation, we selected ARINC’s SelfServ CUSS solution. We fully expect it to meet all our performance objectives and to facilitate the efficient sharing of operational costs among our members.”

ARINC’s SelfServ technology has the capability to print thermal receipts, read passports, support 2D barcode reading, and accommodate future applications such as biometrics and identity card recognition when required.

Randy Pizzi, ARINC Vice President and Managing Director, Asia/Pacific, said, “This award caps an industry-leading achievement for ARINC. By the end of this year we will have deployed more than 300 CUSS kiosks for our customers in Japan. We are extremely excited to be working with the Narita Terminal 1 North Wing CLUB, and we remain committed to fully supporting all our airline and airport customers in Japan.”

“Airlines have asked for SelfServ to work with a wide range of kiosks while supporting IATA’s open CUSS platform standards,” said Keith Margerison, Senior Director, ARINC Airports Factory. “SelfServ now handles these requirements for custom functionality in a completely open, CUSS standard solution.” At Narita Terminal 1 North, versatile thermal printers will replace much more costly ATB2 magnetic boarding pass printers, for added economy and reliability. ARINC’s SelfServ platform supports this change transparently, with no modifications required to the airlines’ self-service applications or host systems.

Airlines at Narita Terminal 1 that will share the kiosks include Aeroméxico, Air Calin, Air France, Alitalia, British Airways, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Korean Air, Northwest Airlines, and Virgin Atlantic Airways.

ARINC is recognized as today’s leading innovator in common-use technology. Its MUSE® passenger systems are found at more than 100 airports worldwide and used by 260 airlines carrying more than 300 million passengers a year. ARINC’s SelfServ CUSS solution leads the market in units installed and number of airlines certified and deployed.
