Edmonton International Taps ARINC for New Passenger Technologies and IT Support

September 21, 2006

Annapolis, Maryland—ARINC Incorporated has been awarded a major contract for new common-use passenger systems and maintenance support by Edmonton International Airport, one of western Canada’s busiest hubs. ARINC Managed Services, an independent subsidiary, will provide comprehensive systems maintenance and support on-site under the 7-year contract.

Edmonton International has been experiencing phenomenal growth, with passenger traffic increasing more than 15% year-to-date. ARINC will begin its airport-wide replacement of Edmonton’s older passenger systems this fall. ARINC will install its industry-leading iMUSE™ check-in and boarding solution, Baglink™ baggage reconciliation system, and SelfServ™ kiosk technology. SelfServ technology will allow participating airlines to share 30 airport-owned passenger kiosks, and ARINC’s LocalCheck™ system will allow airlines without host computers to participate in the new common-use check-in, kiosk, and baggage systems.

“Our new common-use systems from ARINC will help Edmonton International maintain and enhance its passenger services while accommodating the strong projected growth at Edmonton International over the next several years,” stated Diane Trenn, Edmonton Airports Vice-President, Operations. “The airlines here will also benefit from the greater flexibility and lower shared costs of the new ARINC common-use systems.”

“With the addition of Edmonton, ARINC now enjoys a commanding presence in Canada’s airport industry. Our systems now operate in four of Canada’s top five airports, handling an estimated 18 million passengers per year,” stated Mike Picco, Vice President, ARINC Airport Solutions. “ARINC is very proud to be awarded this important work, and we believe it will showcase the benefits of our single-source solution for advanced technology and comprehensive IT support.”

Under the contract, ARINC Managed Services (AMS) will provide Edmonton with on-site technicians for support and maintenance. They will manage routine equipment maintenance, supervise system configuration changes as needed by the airlines, and support the airport’s new IP network under a service-level agreement.

“This represents the 40th location throughout this region where AMS provides maintenance services,” stated Jim L. Martin, AMS Senior Director. “Edmonton International’s confidence in our abilities reinforces our position as the leading IT provider for airports throughout Canada.”

With more than 45 non-stop destinations, Edmonton International Airport is the fifth busiest airport in Canada. EIA offers daily non-stop service to 10 U.S. hubs—Chicago, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Palm Springs, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, San Francisco and Seattle—allowing one-stop access to virtually anywhere in the world.
