ARINC to Demonstrate Its AWINS™ Radio Interoperability Solution at APCOAugust 7, 2006Annapolis, MarylandARINC Incorporated will exhibit its unique AWINS™ radio interoperability solution at the 2006 conference of the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) this week in Orange County, Florida. The versatile AWINS technology that helped save lives after Hurricane Katrina will be exhibited at ARINC Booth 161 in the Orange County Convention Center. AWINS enables real-time connections between most types of radio systems used by first responders and public safety agencies. Fire, police, and emergency personnel can communicate as needed without sacrificing their investments in current radio systems. The AWINS demonstration at APCO will include communications with a Mobile Command and Control Unit (MCCU) and regional first-responder radio systems. The first AWINS-equipped vehicle attracted national attention restoring communications after Hurricane Katrina. Another AWINS-equipped vehicle was recently deployed by the Orange County, Florida, Sheriff’s Office. The Urban Area Command Post serves the citizens of Orange County, the City of Orlando, and the surrounding counties of Brevard, Lake, Seminole, Osceola, and Volusia. Both AWINS-equipped vehicles were built by MBF Industries and funded by Department of Homeland Security grants. AWINS-equipped MCCUs are designed as self-contained nerve centers, with a variety of HF, VHF, and UHF radio systems capable of connecting virtually all police, fire, and public safety radios used today. Telephone, cellular, marine radio, satellite links, and videoconferencing technology can also be included. The AWINS system plays a key role in managing and connecting all the communications channels on board. “ARINC is delighted to demonstrate its AWINS interoperability solution for the thousands of public safety attendees at APCO,” stated Marvin Ingram, ARINC Senior Director, Public and Enterprise Solutions. “AWINS points the way for emergency responders across the nation to achieve true radio interoperability in emergencies or for routine communications, without sacrificing the investments in their current equipment.” MBF Industries is a leading builder and outfitter of custom heavy duty vehicles for emergency response, law enforcement, mobile medical, mobile branch banking, and mobile communications.
