ARINC Supports DMSMS Programs at Defense Industry Conference in CharlotteJuly 7, 2006Annapolis, MarylandARINC Engineering Services, LLC will send two of the world’s leading experts in the area of obsolete parts management to the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) DoD Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) Conference scheduled July 10-13 in Charlotte, NC. The focus of the conference is DMSMS and Obsolescence in the Total Life Cycle System Management (TLCSM) environment. Walt Tomczykowski, ARINC’s Program Director for Life Cycle Management (LCM), will moderate a panel on DMSMS Management, Planning, Implementation, Assessment, and Metrics on Wednesday July 12 at 10:30 a.m. Mr Tomczykowski has been developing and supporting Life Cycle Management programs for the military and industry for more than 20 years, and he is a recognized expert on methods of preventing and solving obsolescence problems. Charles “Chuck” Marshall, who leads ARINC’s DMSMS Training and Operations, will present a briefing on Teaming Opportunities within the DoD on Thursday July 13 at the workshop. Total Life Cycle System Management is an aggressive effort initiated by the DoD to re-engineer the life-cycle management of DoD systems to achieve effective performance and optimum readiness while reducing operations and support costs. DMSMS management prescribes proactive methods for dealing with obsolescence. The threat to military systems from component obsolescence continues to increase as equipment once scheduled for retirement is retained in service. Because solutions grow increasingly costly over time if DMSMS programs are merely reactive, today’s DMSMS focuses on manufacturing and acquisition strategies to help program managers mitigate the effects of obsolescence. Lead-free electronics restrictions, which are exacerbating the problem of obsolescence, will also be addressed. ARINC Engineering Services, LLC, supports engineering programs to manage obsolescence in all types of systems, and has been a leader in the field since 1983. Visitors at the NDIA DMSMS 2006 conference can learn more about ARINC’s DMSMS services and capabilities at the Charlotte Conference Center, Booth 423.
