ARINC Hosts Two Eminent Antenna Experts at Four Day Seminar

May 17, 2006

Seminar discussions for electromagnetic antenna designAnnapolis, Maryland—ARINC Incorporated today inaugurated an advanced seminar series for studies in the field of electromagnetic antenna design. The first annual seminar this year will feature four days of discussions led by antenna experts Dr. Gary A. Thiele and Dr. Warren Stutzman, authors of the industry reference work, Antenna Theory and Design.

The 2006 ARINC seminar has attracted engineers and experts from all over to broaden their knowledge of antenna theory and design. The participants represent private industry as well as state and federal agencies including the Coast Guard, FBI, and others.

All types of electromagnetic communications and RADAR systems can be effected from environmental factors such as buildings, terrain irregularities, or simple weather conditions. The quality and reliability of these systems can be greatly enhanced by improved performance achieved by proper antenna selection and design.

ARINC uses electromagnetic modeling and simulation techniques to design and build new antennas and to mitigate ongoing communications problems. Radio Frequency (RF) systems that can be enhanced by analysis include virtually all daily communications—from walkie talkies and space communications to microwave relays and cell phones.

For decades, ARINC has been a leading provider of expertise from building prototype and production antennas to calculating and analyzing antenna/system performance and RF coverage models for both civilian and military systems.

ARINC seminar moderator, Nick Basciano, Director of Advanced Applications states, “Doctors Thiele and Stutzman are two of the world’s leading experts in the delivery of antennae modeling and theory. We are indeed grateful they are willing to share their time and knowledge in this first ARINC seminar, which we’re sure will be appreciated by attendees.”

Dr. Warren L. Stutzman is a professor at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and received his BSEE and AB (Mathematics) degrees from the University of Illinois, and MS and Ph.D. degrees from Ohio State University. He is the author of several books including Polarization in Electromagnetic Systems and Antenna Theory and Design: Second Edition and has published many papers and technical reports. Dr. Stutzman was the 1992 President of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society and is a Fellow of the IEEE.

Gary A. Thiele received his Ph.D. from the Ohio State University in 1968 and served on their faculty through 1980. Professor Thiele has contributed to two books, authored numerous technical reports and journal papers, and presented papers at various electromagnetic technical symposia in the United States and abroad. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and was the 1982 President of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society. From 1989 to 1993, Dr. Thiele served on the Army Science Board.

ARINC Incorporated is the world leader in transportation communications and systems engineering. The company develops and operates communications and information processing systems and provides systems engineering and integration solutions to five key industries: airports, aviation, defense, government, and surface transportation. Founded to provide reliable and efficient radio communications for the airlines, ARINC is headquartered in Annapolis, Maryland, and operates key regional offices in London and Singapore, with over 3,200 employees worldwide.
