ARINC Joins Verified ID in Clear Registered Traveler ProgramSeptember 19, 2005 Annapolis, MarylandConvinced that private industry can create a successful “Registered Traveler” program and reduce security hassles for air travelers, ARINC Incorporated today announced it has joined Verified Identity Pass, Inc. and its systems integrator Lockheed Martin in Clear, a privately run program offering travelers expedited security access at airports for an annual fee. Verified ID is currently operating the Clear Registered Traveler Program at Orlando International Airport. Enrollments are targeted to hit 30,000 this year, but will likely exceed expectations at the current pace. Verified Identity Pass hopes to expand its services to other airports soon. “Today’s airline passenger demands a better answer to long security lines,” stated Mike Picco, ARINC Vice President, Airport Systems. “Clear is that answer.” ARINC has acquired an equity stake in Verified Identity Pass, and is a subcontractor to Lockheed on the Orlando project. In joining with Verified Identity Pass and Lockheed, ARINC brings its expertise in airport and airline passenger processing and identity management systems (IdMS) to the partnership. ARINC IdMS collects, securely stores, and retrieves biometric data while guaranteeing privacy. The driving force behind Clear is New York entrepreneur Steven Brill, best known as the founder of Court TV and The American Lawyer magazine. Brill launched the start-up company Verified Identity Pass (www.verifiedidpass.com) in 2003. Clear is based on Brill’s extensive market research into what passengers actually want in a registered traveler program. “Clear is basic risk management. Someone who is pre-screened is less of a risk than someone who isn’t. The Clear program benefits members, other passengers, and the industry,” said Steven Brill. ARINC Incorporated is the world leader in transportation communications and systems engineering. The company develops and operates communications and information processing systems and provides systems engineering and integration solutions to five key industries: airports, aviation, defense, government, and surface transportation. Founded to provide reliable and efficient radio communications for the airlines, ARINC is headquartered in Annapolis, Maryland, and operates key regional offices in London and Singapore, with over 3,000 employees worldwide. ARINC is ISO 9001:2000 certified. Release: 05-79 Stephen E. Means |
